The taster lecture cover mobile robot systems in warehousing – a key activity in supply chains. A take-away from the E-commerce boom and other market developments is that in order to deal with increased volumes, decisions need to be taken about which kinds of automation to invest in throughout the various parts of a warehouse, including transport and conveyance, picking and packing, and even dock and loading operations. For each process, establishing the best type and the required level of automation is key. There is a vast number of choices available from warehouse automation providers and they are often more than happy to sell these regardless of your actual requirements. Hence, when making decisions, all elements of the process should be considered such as average and peak volumes, special picking requirements, or handling characteristics. In this talk we will introduce a selection of novel robot systems alongside multiple decision variables, such as cost, flexibility, and the scalability of a solution.
